American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the B2B payments division of American Express, enabling businesses globally to pay for and finance what they need to grow their businesses. GCS provides a suite of payment and lending products, solutions for travel and everyday business spending, cross border payments, global currency solutions, and business financing. GCS Strategy, M&A, and Alliances (SMA) team plays an integral role in defining, developing, and leading new strategies, inorganic growth (M&A), partnership (Alliances) opportunities, as well as leading the Annual Investment Planning, Opex, Strategic Engagement Team to accelerate our overall 3-year strategy and vision.

GCS is looking for a hard-working Senior Manager, Commercial Strategy to evaluate strategic opportunities across the commercial payments landscape and craft growth strategies to strengthen and expand our customer base. Reporting to the Director, Strategy & M&A, they will work cross-functionally to help define long-term business objectives and craft critical strategic and inorganic initiatives for the business unit.

The Strategy function sits within the broader Strategy, M&A, and Alliances team and is responsible for supporting senior leadership and key collaborators on high priority cross-functional strategy projects, leading foundational research (competitive intel, total addressable market, new products), and leading the commercial strategic planning process.

The ideal candidate will bring structured strategy skills, strong communication and influencing skills, and an ability to take initiative and establish relationships in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on high-impact, executive-sponsored strategic projects in critical focus areas (product development, market sizing, international expansion, and membership strategy)

  • Collaborate with partner teams across GCS and the company to deliver on strategic projects

  • Provide thought leadership through analysis of the external market and competitive trends

  • Assess acquisition opportunities that could accelerate GCS’ inorganic growth strategy

  • Support team leadership in developing materials and executive presentations for internal and external audiences (Board, Investor Communications)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and strategic skills, with proven ability to synthesize complex inputs into clear recommendations (issue identification, problem structuring, analysis, development of actionable recommendations)

  • Outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal – with comfort presenting to audiences of all levels

  • Experience leading multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced and matrixed environment

  • Self-starter with initiative, drive, and attention to detail

  • High proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Payments and/or FinTech is a plus

  • Prior management consulting, investment banking, and/or corporate strategy experience preferred

  • MBA or equivalent experience preferred

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
